Hand Painted Wedding Stationery Complete Revamp and Redesign
Looking back through my hand painted wedding portfolio, I realise how much my style has evolved and changed. I’d love to revisit and completely change at least half of my collection, yet at the same time I need to push forward and create more new sophisticated wedding suites too.
I supposed that’s the paradox of being a designer. There are many designers and creators I have chatted with on instagram that hold the same view. This is part of the journey we are all on and we should take pride in our achievements and how far we’ve come. More frequently though I find myself looking at what I haven’t done.
Self comparison can be poison. I'm constantly doing it and I can't seem to stop.
Above in the video, you can find one of the very first hand painted wedding stationery suites that I created. My calligraphy was very far from ready and it’s pretty embarrassing to see my old script! Some of the letters are too shaky, and I needed to make the whole suite much more chic and classy rather than loud and brash.
Redesign Steps:
I knew that I needed a monogram. Another hand painted redesign was needed to add depth to really make this hand painted wedding stationery zing from the paper. Inspired by the deep purple berries, I started a watercolour artwork piece to play with the paint and using some dabs of paint. Some deep green was added for some balance, otherwise it was too bland for me.
After creating a final design, I digitally copied it onto some fine paper from my stockist GF Smith , London. You can find the links below.
First of all I crafted an invitation card.
I reduced it down to create a complementary monogram. I knew that it would sit better as a design with torn and painted edges. The final stages where to add some gold calligraphy, which I’m rather partial to at the moment.
Finally to accompany the wedding suite, I redesigned a save the date and mounted it on this beautiful embossed peachy card from a premium card stockist in Paris, Arjowiggins ( stockist link below).

Hand Painted Wedding Stationery Redesign
I feel as though I need to seriously update and redesign the rest of my hand painted wedding stationery collection too. That’s how serious we should all be about our branding. Think about the image we want to portray and make sure very design, every image, every item matches that image. The task is long and arduous but so worth it in the end. You can look back at your entire collection with pride.
I still need some time to get there.
How about you? Have you ever done something, only to look back and know you could do better?
Did you change it? Drop me a comment and let me know.
